FAQs

The Austrian Research Centre for Forests (BFW) is dedicated to all aspects of forests – economic, ecological and social. Using scientific methods, we investigate topics such as sustainable forest management and natural hazards, which are increasing as a result of climate change. We share our knowledge with society. At the same time we perform sovereign control tasks for the Republic of Austria.

Our culture is based on respect, fairness and reliability. Transparent information flow and employee involvement in decision-making processes are important to us. We foster open, collegial cooperation across all departments.

The BFW combines research, education and practical experience—with a clear focus on forests, nature and sustainable resource use. This unique combination is rare in Austria. Those who work for us not only perform high-quality scientific and technical work, but also actively contribute to Austria’s sustainable development.

Our headquarters are located in Vienna (Schönbrunn). We also operate offices in Innsbruck, at the forestry training centers in Ossiach and Traunkirchen and a trial garden in Tulln.

Our daily work is as varied as our tasks. Whether in research, technology, administration or training, our employees work in a structured, independent and often interdisciplinary manner. Flexible working hours, modern workplaces and breaks in green surroundings create a productive and pleasant working environment at all locations.
