Natural Forest Reserves

In 1996 an Austria-wide network of natural forest reserves which is representative for all forest communities has been established. The network will be used for the development of ecologically-oriented, nature-based silviculture. The Unit of Protective Forest and Natural Forest Reserves is charged with providing scientific leadership and management for the Natural Forest Reserves Programme. In addition, staff members are represented in a number of initiatives related to protected forest areas and nature conservation.

  • Establishment of a NFR database

  • Provide advisory service to forest owners (by telephone, online)
