Forest Biodiversity

& Nature Conservation

The institute is concerned with the genetic information of forest trees and other organisms living in the forest (for example, non-native species), as well as with the dynamics of genetic processes in forest stands, taking into account environmental stress and forest management. The natural forest reserves are also located here. The institute will be headed by Dr. Heino Konrad on an interim basis from 2021.

The aim is to translate genetic knowledge into measures for the promotion of biodiversity, for genetically sustainable forest management, for the protection and management of genetic resources and for the promotion of the adaptability and survival of complex forest ecosystems.
