Protection
The main task of the Department of Forest Protection is research on biotic and abiotic damaging agents and development of control strategies. As part of the plant protection service, it performs official tasks to protect forests from quarantine pests. In the field of air pollution control, the data basis for legal measures is created. The results of interdisciplinary research on forest damage serve as the basis for environmental and forest policy as well as phytosanitary measures.
Other key areas of responsibility of the institute include information and advice for forest enterprises, forest authorities, training centers, plant producers and private persons on forest and tree health. The institute is the contact point for diagnosing causes of forest and tree damage for official plant protection service as well as all other aspects of forest and tree health.
The unit Forest Plant Health provides advice for the ministry and the plant protection services in issues of forest plant health and supports the Federal Forest Office particularly in implementing Regulation (EU)2016/2031.
